Friday Update: 17 May 2024
Editorial
It’s been a few weeks since we’ve been able to produce a full Friday Update. We always try to publish the articles on any finds that have been sent in on the Friday of the week they are sent in even if we can’t do a full update. So, please do keep sending them in. We’ve a catch up this week with 21 Readers Finds including a very rare Penny of King Coenwulf of Mercia.
Plus in PAS Finds, there are two significant finds since our last issue: a Viking weight with a very rare Viking oval ring embedded in it and a penny of William of Aumale; only the third known example.
Plus in the news, the story of how detectorist Chris Weir found a gold ring after his wife encouraged him to keep detecting.
Detectorist’s “magical” find goes to auction
Detectorist Chris Weir said his wife Lisa is his “lucky charm” when he found this medieval gold ring in 2018. It goes to auction next month with an estimate of £5,000 – £7,000.
