Groat of Edward IV
Geoff Morris said that he unearthed this coin from a local permission in Essex. Geoff believed it was a coin of Edward IV but had difficulty when trying to pin it down.
The coin is a groat of Edward IV, which was struck during this king’s second reign. It has mint mark annulet on both sides and the stops, where they can be seen, are apostrophes. On the obverse there are trefoils on some of the tressure cusps but nothing on others. All this adds up to the coin being an example of class XIV.  Â
Valuation
This groat would grade good Fine to about VF and to a collector it should be worth around £150.
