Billon follis of Constantine the Great

Rob Warwick said he found this Roman coin a few years since. He asked if I could let him have details in regard to the emperor, date and mint.

The coin measures 24mm in diameter and is a billon follis of Constantine the Great. On the obverse is a laureate bust of the emperor facing right and a legend reading CONSTANTINVS P F AVG. On the reverse the standing figure of Sol is flanked by T and F and on this side the legend reads SOL INVICTO COMITI. Beneath Sol are the mint letters for Trier (PTR).

In volume IV of David Sear’s Roman Coins and Their Values this type of follis is listed as number 16060. Serval different varieties are on record and the date range is AD 310-13.

Valuation

Rob’s find would grade VF but there is some kind of deposit stuck to part of the reverse.  It’s a reasonably attractive coin but a common type so my price range would be no higher than £10-12.
