Sovereign of George IV
A detectorist we know as Steve said this coin surfaced on the 11th of April. It’s a gold sovereign of George IV so Steve must have been thrilled when he first saw it. I was asked to provide a valuation figure in order to share it with a farmer.
The coin is the bare head type and is dated 1830 beneath the king’s head on the obverse. George IV died in June of 1830 and as he had no children his younger brother, William, became king.
Valuation
The obverse would grade VF but there are several small nicks o the surface and the edge is damaged between the S of GEORGIUS and the I of IV. The reverse is good VF with no visible faults. If sold at auction then with the obverse defects I’d expect the hammer price to be between £500 and £600.
