Penny of Henry I
Darren Booth said he found this coin last week and he requested a full ID and a valuation.
Darren’s find is a penny of Henry I and is an example of type 15 (quadrilateral on cross fleury). Unfortunately, over half of each side is flat so I can’t give a full ID. What can be seen of the legend on the reverse appears to read N+WI; this might be the end of the mint signature and the start of the moneyer’s name. However, with so little to wok from I can’t say anything more.
Valuation
On the plus side, this is a penny of Henry I and very few examples have turned up as detecting finds. On the minus side, more than half of each side is flat. In its present condition my valuation figure would be no higher than £80-100.
