Friday Update: 3 March 2023
Editorial
We always like to highlight the good work that detectorists do to unearth important artefacts from our history for everyone to see. We have two more such example this week. The first is a Nationally Importance Anglo-Saxon brooch which is now on public display. The second is an item of Treasure which has been donated by the detectorist who found it to his local museum – particularly pleased to report this one as the detectorist in question is a reader and contributor to this website.
Noonans have an auction this week which features dozens of detecting finds. It includes a fertility figurine, which has been all over the press. More poignantly, there’s a detectorist’s collection for sale; it includes the Lissington Horse and Rider.
We’ve nine more readers finds including a groat of Richard III, a king who is very popular with collectors. In PAS finds we have a humble 19th century button – we’ve found a connection to a battle fought in the 3rd Century BC.
