Friday Update: 24 February 2023
Editorial
By popular demand (a few people have asked), this week we have the return of Kings and Queens of England with the story of Henry II; a man whose early “Tealby” coinage had the workmanship ethos of “that’ll do”. Perhaps he had other things on his mind with his children taking turns to go to war with him and a “turbulent priest” to deal with.
We’ve news of another important detecting find going on public display – we look at the evidence that links it to Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. In PAS finds this week, there’s a 16th century object with a very specific function that’s still being produced in a very similar form to do the same job – not may designs have that longevity. In auction news, the Siddington brooches, which we featured in our PAS review last year, smash their auction estimate.
Another great week for readers’ finds; some rare coins in very good condition. Thanks, as always, to everyone who sends their finds in.
