Voided long cross penny of Henry III
John Garner sent in the images of this coin but it was unearthed by Dilys Peak, who is John’s detecting and life partner.
The coin is a voided long cross penny of Henry III, with characteristics that mark it out as belonging to class 5b2. On the reverse the legend reads NIC OLE ONC ANT(with some legations), so Nicole is the moneyer and Canterbury the mint.
Valuation
There is an edge defect at the top of the obverse but the coin is otherwise in good Fine condition, so my price range would be £30 to £40
