Friday Update: 10 February 2023

Editorial

It’s strange how little coincidences pop up some weeks. This week we have two exceptional coins from the same period in English vying for Find of the Week; a possibly unique penny of Offa of Mercia and an exceptional penny of Cuthred of Kent, who began his reign just two years after Offa died. We’ve seven other readers’ finds, a few are somewhat unusual and one that I’ve never seen before as a detecting find.

The other coincidence is that “Rother” crops up twice. In PAS finds is the story behind a 17th century token from a pub in Rotherhithe and another report from the Rother district of East Sussex. This is a good news story of another hoard, found by a detectorist, going on display in his local museum.
