Friday Update: 2 September 2022
Editorial
Many detectorists have spent years searching for that elusive gold coin. Imagine digging up your floorboards in your home to find a tin full of them. A couple from North Yorkshire did just that and are now selling the hoard through Spink.
Some more rare coins have been found by readers including a PAX type penny of Harold II and a very rare cut halfpenny of Henry I. Also this week, I received a fragment of a long cross penny of Henry III which proved something of a challenge to pin down the class, mint and moneyer.
In PAS finds there’s a Roman plate brooch which was still in the process of being made; the insight into the production process that it provides makes it a Find of Note.
