Object type: Mount
Period: Medieval
Primary material: Copper alloy
Date found: 22/08/2022
Location: Stratford-on-Avon

A copper-alloy mount, dating to 1150-1350, of the upper part of a robed figure. These figurines usually depicted saints or apostles and were mounted on crucifixes or reliquaries. Produced in Limoges in the late twelfth and early thirteenth, the cells would once have been filled with enamel. This has been designated a Find of Note of Regional Importance.

Heart shaped token of Will Stevens

A halfpenny token of Will Stevens of Bicester. The obverse is dated 1669 and has three crowns, presumably for an inn of that name. The legend reads WILL : STEVENS . OF . BISTER, (Bicester). In the Token Corresponding Society newsletter from 1984 there is a report of a auction of 17th century tokens in Oxford. One of these tokens was the star lot, fetching £150.

Pendant with Hebrew letter He

A pendant, possibly a modified late 17th century sixpence, which has the Hebrew letter He engraved on it. Above the letter are two dashes indicating an abbreviation. The most likely interpretation is that the He is short for HaShem “his name”, which is used as a title for god. It is a Find of Note.

Roman plate brooch

A copper-alloy brooch dating to the 2nd or 3rd century. The notable feature of this find is that it appears to be a work in progress, with a few processes yet to complete. It therefore provides evidence of the manufacturing process and so has been designated a Find of Note of Regional Importance.
