Friday Update: 26 August 2022
Editorial
We never know what is going to be in each week’s update of this website until the finds come in. It’s been unusual over the last few weeks that these have followed a theme. This week’s themes is Irish coins, with three readers’ finds coming in, including one exceptional coin.
PAS finds includes a pilgrim’s badge of Christ weeping. The story behind the find includes the Rood of Grace at Boxley Abbey, a medieval mechanical carving of Christ which was said to weep. A similar image of Christ is seen on one of the lots in Noonans auction, an iconographic gold ring. The auction contains several other detecting finds.
