Editorial

A hammered gold coin is always something special and so I was pleased to see a quarter noble of Henry VI come in this week. It would take something special to top that and indeed that’s what came in; a penny of Stephen with a reverse legend that is something of a mystery. It has an additional part which I would not expect to be there.

In PAS finds there are several rare coins and a brooch in the form of a peacock; a popular image with the Romans.

Roman peacock brooch is a Find of Note of Regional Importance. Other Finds of Note include a Shrewsbury penny of Edward the Confessor, a contemporary copy of a siliqua of Constantius II and a penny of Coenwulf.
