Sixpence of Charles I
This hammered silver coin is one of Glyn Peak’s recent finds. It’s not a rarity but any hammered coin is a welcome find at this time of the year. The harvesting of crops is now in full swing but the soil is still like concrete due to the lack of rain.
Glyn’s find is a Tower Mint sixpence of Charles I with mint mark tun on both sides. It is either type 4.2 or 4.3 but I can’t say which due to weakness in crucial areas.
Valuation
The obverse is only Fair but the reverse would grade Fine. In its present condition I would price it no higher than £20.
