Friday Update: 2 December 2022
Editorial
We’re a little bit later than normal this week as I was doing battle with some flat pack furniture. We decided to call it a draw.
Noonans auction this week resulted in some good prices for some recently found gold rings. The star of the show was the Lady Brook ring which fetched £38,000. The star of another show, the Detectorists, announced that it was coming back for a Christmas special; the plot centres on a “mysterious find”. Another mysterious find in the news is a Henry VI quarter noble; how did it end up in Canada? It significantly predates the previous oldest find and might suggest that there was European contact prior to currently believed.
From the mysterious to the unique; a penny of William the Lion of Scotland sent in by a reader this week could well be that. And in PAS finds is a Roman souvenir from Castleford.
