Part of the fascination of detecting is the back story behind the humble finds and well as the more important ones. A mass produced Victorian pencil end in PAS Finds is of a champion jockey (13 times) who tragically died far too young. And, a seal matrix, considered a Find of Note which helped 15th century sinners get to heaven quicker.

Mottisfont seal matrix goes on display

This seal was found in 2021 near the site of a former abbey in Hampshire. It was used to reduce a sinner’s time in purgatory, on the way to heaven – for a price.
