Friday Update: 26 May 2023
Editorial
It’s good to have another Bank Holiday weekend – we’ve not had one for a couple of weeks. We have one of our longer reads: the life and coinage of Richard I, probably better known as Richard the Lionheart.
We’ve the results from Timeline’s auction which included the “Roxwell” ring, found in 2021 by Robert Taylor. Before the auction, Robert commented on our auction preview on our Facebook page “That’s my ring there, feel well chuffed“. He’ll be doubly chuffed now as it fetched twice its auction estimate.
Our Find of the Week is a London penny of Edward I. A fairly common detecting find but this one has an unusual feature that makes it an extreme rarity. Have a good look at the image before you read the article to see if you can spot it.
In PAS Finds is a seal matrix which is connected with the move from short cross pennies to long cross. Plus a look at a remarkable restoration of a ryal of Edward IV.
