This week, I was reading an article in the British Medical Journal in which a consultant psychiatrist, Beth Chapman talks about the benefits her hobby of detecting brings her “It’s peaceful, it allows you to focus on something just for yourself, and, if you join a club, it can connect you with like-minded people“. My favourite line from the piece was “Metal detecting might appear to be nerdy and boring, but actually it’s brilliant“

Beth talks about the rush that comes from hearing the tell-tale beep knowing there’s a chance that you’ve struck gold and then finding that it’s just a button. One of our readers certainly experienced that rush with his find of a gold ryal of Edward IV.
