All detectorist dream of unearthing a gold coin as evidenced by Bill Wiggins, one of our readers, who sent in a gold stater for an ID and valuation this week. He said the coin was his best find ever.
Imagine then that you find a gold quarter stater and an expert from the Ashmolean Museum says “It is one of the outstanding discoveries of recent decades in Celtic numismatics“. That what detectorist Lewis Fudge did earlier this year and it led to a remarkable investigation to identify the previously unknown king who had issued it.
