Friday Update: 29 April 2022
Editorial
Eight more readers finds this week. They include an excessively rare “Sussex helmet” ancient British silver unit. Despite its rarity, it’s the second one that’s been sent in to the website. PAS finds has a brooch made from a Scandinavian copy of an Agnus Dei penny – such a striking image on the coin that it was copied and often adapted for jewellery.
Spink have an auction next week that includes several recent detecting finds, including a rare Henry Murdac penny. It also has a proof set of George IV coins that is expected to fetch over £80,000. Spink have also announced a competition they are running that is aimed at detectorists – a chance to detect on 1,300 acres of ancient Dorset, that has never been detected before.
