Nine more readers finds this week. Delighted to be contacted this week by Bill Wiggins who sent in images of something he had found several years since but had no idea what it was until he saw the same object in last Friday’s update. It goes to the heart of why I set up this website; detectorists sharing their finds to help other detectorists identify what they have found.

In PAS finds there is a gorgeous denarius of Didia Clara; a nationally important coin. You may not have come across her before because she was the daughter of an Emperor that only ruled for 66 days.

In auction news, the Throckenholt Cross sells for £10,000 and the finder reveals the unusual place that he followed the auction. Hansons auction next week includes a number of detecting finds, some very rare or even unique.

Short cross penny of King John

I’ve seen hundreds of John pennies as detecting finds. This is one of the best specimens I have seen

Denarius of Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus

This denarius bears the portrait of Antoninus Pius but it was struck after his death in AD 161.
