Some fireworks in the world of detecting this week with the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon coins being declared treasure. There was also another highly important find in York; a miniature gold bible.

Readers sent in 15 finds this week including a rare trade token from Suffolk. In PAS finds there is a highly unusual Iron Age fob; it’s not entirely clear what these were used for.

Most Suffolk tokens aren’t rare and some are fairly common. The specimen is an exception, for it is a real rarity

Anglo-Saxon silver sceatta

It’s an Anglo-Saxon silver sceatta and a rather nice example of the type with good surfaces.

PAS Finds

Iron Age “fob” considered a find of regional importance. Plus a Roman buckle pin, a penny of Offa and a Bronze Age Mace head.
