Voided short cross penny of Henry IIII
The 18mm in diameter hammered silver coin featured here was found by Derek Henderson in the Lincoln area. I was asked to provide full details, including a valuation.
The coin is a voided short cross penny of Henry IIII. The lettering isn’t altogether clear but I’d say it belongs to class 7c. On the reverse the legend reads +IOHAN ON CANTE so Iohan is the moneyer and Canterbury the mint.
Valuation
The obverse would grade Fine but the reverse has been struck off centre and would grade only Fair to Fine. In its present condition I’d price this Henry III penny at £20.
