Silver unit of the Catuvellauni and Trinovantes
This is the second Rob Warwick find to come in this week. It’s an Ancient British silver unit, on which a valuation was requested to pass on to a landowner.
This silver unit is a coin of the Catuvellauni and Trinovantes. On the obverse, facing left, is a head with CAMV in front. On the reverse is the seated fugue of Victory, holding aloft a bowl and with CVNO under her seat.
In Ancient British Coins this unit is listed as number 2855. In the Standard Catalogue it is number 303.
Valuation
This is a very rare coin and it would grade VF. Unfortunately, the edge is rather chipped and this would have a significant impact on its possible value. As it stands, I would price it a £220.
