Penny of Henry VIII
This hammered silver coin came in from Barry Davidson with a request for a full ID and a valuation. I was told that the coin was unearthed on the 17th of October.
On the obverse is a bust of Henry VIII and the legend starts with H D G ROSA. On the reverse the legend reads CIVI TAS LOn DOn. The mint mark and some other details are not clear enough to identify.
All I can say is that this coin is definitely a penny. It could have been struck during the third coinage of Henry VIII or during the posthumous coinage when Edward VI was on the throne.
Valuation
This penny is weak and/or flat in places but it is still good enough to grade Fine for the issue. As the exact period of striking remains uncertain, my highest price estimate would be £30.
