Penny of Henry V
The two hammered silver coins featured here came in from John Lashmar to be identified and valued.
Coin number one is a York mint penny of Henry V.
On the obverse there is a mullet and a broken annulet by the king’s crown so the coin is an example of series C. There is a quatrefoil in the centre of the reverse, which tells us that this penny was struck for the profit of the Archbishop of York.
The coin would grade Fine+ but it has been struck off centre, particularly the reverse. In its present condition I would price it at £35.
Coin number two is another coin from the reign of Henry V but this one is a halfpenny of London.
On the obverse there is a trefoil and an annulet beside the crown so this coin is an example of series F.
It’s a decent strike and would grade good Fine so I would price it at £45.
