Penny of Edward III
This is Steve Simmons’ second find. Like the first, it was unearthed from a pasture field in Wiltshire.
It is a penny of Edward III, which was struck during the fourth coinage of the pre treaty period. On the reverse there is an annulet in all four quarters. This penny is an example of series C and was struck at London.
Valuation
There is a small edge defect between the V and S of EDWARDVS but the obverse is otherwise about Fine; the reverse is better than Fine. My price range would be £20-25.
It is worth mentioning that even though most pennies of Edward III are not particularly scarce they turn up far less frequently than pennies of Edward I.
