Penny of Edward II
Rob Hodge asked me to let him have a valuation of this 20mm diameter hammered silver coin.
Rob’s find is a Canterbury mint penny of Edward II, with an obverse legend that starts with EDWAR R. The shape of the crown on King Edward’s head points towards the coin being an example of class 13.
It is worth mentioning that except for the earliest pennies of Edward II almost all the others have an obverse legend starting with EDWAR R. This is similar to early class 10 coins of Edward I and sometimes leads to confusion.
Valuation
This coin is in better than Fine condition so should be worth around £30 to a collector.
