Featured Find
Silver Annular Brooch
Object type: Brooch

Primary material: Silver
Date found: 01/01/2019
Location: East Dorset
This is a treasure find from 2019 in East Dorset. The Treasure Registrars announced on Tuesday (8 June) that the detectorist who found it and the landowners, Lord and Lady Phillimore, have donated it to Priest’s House Museum in Wimborne, East Dorset.
The brooch is believed to date from the 14th to 16th century.

Cloisonné enamelled brooch
A Anglo-Saxon brooch dating to AD 970 – 1100. The pattern is made using a technique known as cloisonné where compartments formed formed from metal strips (copper alloy in this case) are filled with enamel.
Late Medieval Finger Ring
Gold finger ring that is thought to date from 1350 – 1500.
Penny of Aethelheard
A very rare penny of Aethelheard, Archbishop of Canterbury with Coenwulf as overlord. It’s an example of the fifth issue, dating to 798-805. Obverse: AEDILHEARD.A.R surrounding a beaded circle containing EP. Reverse: +COENVVLF REX, uncial M within beaded inner-circle.
Harness fitting
A late Bronze Age – Early Iron Age harness fitting/toggle. It has bee designated a Find of Note. Similar items have been found in hoards of harness equipment such as the Parc-y-Meirch hoard, found in the 19th century. However, the function of these fittings is poorly understood.
Buckle – Quoit Brooch style
Dating from c. AD 475 – 625 this buckle has been designated a Find of Note by the PAS. Its design and decorative features are indicate that it may belong to the Quoit Brooch style. This quoit brooch is a type of Anglo-Saxon brooch from the 5th Century onwards.
