Long cross type penny of Aethelred II
This Anglo-Saxon penny was found by Shaun Murton. It has been reported to and recorded by the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
The coin is a long cross type penny of Aethelred II. On the reverse the legend reads +GODPINE M-O GLEA so the moneyer is Godwine and the mint Gloucester. The mint isn’t particularly rare but neither is it as common as several others of the same period.   Â
Valuation
Shaun’s find would grade about VF and to a collector of Anglo-Saxon pennies it should be worth around £250.
