London halfpenny of Henry VIII
This is the second hammered silver coin to come in this week from Robert Knight. The first was Irish but this one is English.
The coin is a London halfpenny of Henry VIII. On the obverse the legend reads h D G ROSA SIE SPIA so it is a product of the second coinage. I can’t make out the mint mark, which is a pity as collectors much prefer coins on which it shows up clearly. Â
Valuation
This Henry VIII halfpenny would grade near VF for the issue but the flan is too small for the dies and both sides have been struck off centre. After allowing for its plus and minus points, in its present condition I would price the coin at £60.
