Henry III penny
This is the last find from a group of eleven sent in by Jamie New. It’s a voided long cross penny of Henry III.
On the reverse the legend reads GIL BER TON CAN with the letters ER, ON and AN joined together. Therefore, the moneyer is Gilber and the mint Canterbury. The coin will belong to class Vb-c. The moneyer’s full name was Gilbert of Bonnington and he was responsible for coins struck for the Archbishop of Canterbury
Valuation
This voided long cross penny would grade good Fine and in its present condition I’d price it at £45.
