Halfpenny of Henry VI

Leon Boulton said this coin was retrieved from a depth of two inches near woodland. Leon thought it was a halfpenny of Henry VI but described it as being clipped.

No size was given but if it is around 15mm in diameter then it is a halfpenny. On the obverse the legend reads +hENRIC REX AnGL. On the reverse we have CIVI TAS LOn DOn and there is an annulet within the group of three pellets in two quarters. Therefore, this is a halfpenny of Henry VI, which was struck at London during the annulet coinage (1422 to circa 1430).

Valuation

To me the coin doesn’t look to have been clipped but it weighs 0.44 of a gram so is slightly short of what it should be. It would grade about VF for the issue but it is weak in places, there are scratches on the reverse and ghosting on the obverse from the deeply cut long cross on the reverse. The coin has a number of minus points but I’ve seem far worse Henry VI halfpennies so my price range on this one would be £35-40.
