Half Groat of James I
David Clark said he unearthed this coin last week. He had already identified it but needed a valuation.
David’s find is a second coinage halfgroat of James I. The mint mark on both sides is a fleur de lis, which dates the coin to 1604-05.
Valuation
This isn’t a particularly scarce coin but it is the best example of the reign, denomination and type I have ever seen as a detecting find. The obverse would grade good VF, the reverse VF and it has excellent eye appeal. My valuation figure would be no lower than £100.
