Gold stater of the Corieltauvi
The Ancient British gold stater pictured here came in from Dave Dillon, who asked for a full ID and a valuation.
This is a coin of the Corieltauvi and is an example of the South Ferriby type. It has a devolved head on the obverse and a disjointed horse facing left on the reverse. There is something below the horse but I can’t tell what it is. In the Standard Catalogue the type is listed as number 390 but there are some varieties.
Valuation
The obverse would grade about VF, the reverse good VF but there are noticeable striking cracks in the edge. In its present condition a likely pre-sale auction estimate would be around £350-400.
