Friday Update – 8 January 2021

Editorial

The latest lockdown restrictions will have a significant impact on our hobby. Whilst it will put a stop to most detecting it offers the opportunity for detectorists to ensure their collections are properly catalogued. I have pointed out on a number of occasions that it is vital to keep records, especially of important and valuable finds. Why is this necessary? Well, I have heard more than once of collections being tipped into a dustbin when a detectorist is no longer there to look after it. You should know which of your finds are special and which are not – but does your nearest and dearest? The most likely answer to the last question is “No”.

Therefore, if your records need attention then take the opportunity now to bring them up-to-date. If you need any assistance with IDs or valuations or have something special in your collection, please contact me.
