Friday Update – 21 May 2021
Editorial
The biggest news of the week is the sale of the Ryedale Bronzes by Hansons. The buyer paid £244,500 to acquire this detecting find from last May.
Amongst this week’s identifications is a find that looks like a penny of Henry I but it is something far more significant.
In the news, a novice detectorist unearths a hoard of Roman, Viking and Bronze Age relics. Being wrapped in an Aldi plastic bag doesn’t seem quite right.
The PAS review has the story of Boy Bishop tokens as well as a papal bulla in excellent condition.
