Class 9b penny of Edward I
This hammered silver coin came in from a detectorist who signed himself as JC. The find was described as an ‘Edward penny’ but JC wanted to know which Edward was depicted on the obverse.
The coin is a class 9b penny of Edward I. On the reverse the legend reads VILL NOV CAS TRI so this penny was struck at the mint situated in Newcastle.
Valuation
The obverse would grade nearly Fine but the reverse is better. Provided that it has not been cleaned it should be worth £20 to a collector.
