Class 4a London penny of Edward I
The coin featured here was found in Cumbria by Steve Bartlett, who said it was his first hammered silver find. Therefore, it will definitely be burnt into his memory. Steve said he would never sell the coin but the landowner would like to know what it might be worth so he wanted a valuation.
Not being sure if this find belonged to the reign of Edward I or II, Steve asked if I could pin it down. The coin is a class 4a London penny of Edward I. It is well struck and would grade good Fine.
Valuation
In terms of commercial value, the coin isn’t particularly scarce but it is an attractive specimen, which shouldn’t be worth any less than £40 to a collector.
