This type of denarius is sometimes referred to as the tribute penny mentioned in the Gospel of St. Matthew

it’s Ancient British, around 2,000 years old and it’s one more specimen than I’ve ever managed to find

It is a voided long cross penny of Henry III

This coin comes from the collection of detecting finds built up by Michael Young

The finder was going to take a clod-shop but forgot to do so as he was so excited when he saw the coin.

The obverse has been struck slightly off centre bit it is VF with a really good portrait.

Tom’s find could be a sixpence or a threepence depending on the size.

I’ve seen a few similar coins as detecting finds but this is one of the best.
