Type 13 penny of Henry I

This coin came in from a detectorist who signed himself as Dave. I was asked to provide a full ID and a valuation on this find.

The coin is a type 13 penny of Henry I. On the reverse what can be seen on the legend reads – – -GAR ON LVNDE. Therefore, the mint is London and the moneyer will be one of a few whose name ends with ‘gar’.

Valuation

A few weak spots and some discolouration show up on the coin but it is round, it still has good eye appeal and would grade near VF for the issue. Additionally, 13 is one of the rarer types for Henry I. The only negative point is the uncertainty about the moneyer’s name.

If I was cataloguing this coin for sale at auction I would set the pre-sale estimate at £700-900.
