Sovereign type penny of Henry VI
The images of this coin came in from Anthony Hopkinson, who asked me to provide a full ID.
The coin is a sovereign type penny of Henry VIII, which was struck during the second coinage. On the obverse the king is seated on a throne and the mint mark is a star.
Within the inner circle on the reverse is a shield of arms flanked by C to the left a D to the right. The C stands for Cuthbert and the D stands for Durham. The surrounding legend reads CIVI TAS DVR RAM and there is no mint mark on this side.
This penny was struck for the profit of Cuthbert Tunstall when he was Bishop of Durham. In the Standard Catalogue pennies of this type are listed as number 2354.
Valuation
The coin is well struck on a round flan and would grade good Fine so my price range would be £40-50.
