Small flan type penny of Edward the Confessor

The coin pictured here was unearthed by Steven Simmons from a pasture field somewhere in Wiltshire. I was asked to provide a valuation.

Steven’s find is a small flan type penny of Edward the Confessor. On the obverse is a bust facing left and the surrounding legend reads +EDPA RD R. On the reverse the legend reads +BVRHERI ON LVN, so the moneyer will be Burred and the mint London. In the Standard Catalogue the type is listed as number 1175.    

Valuation

The coin would grade about VF but has a surface crack extending all the way across the obverse, which detracts significantly from its overall appearance. Without the crack I’d have said more but with it my price range would be no higher than £90 to £120.
