Sixpence of Elizabeth I

Here is another coin from the collection formed over many years by Stephen Palmer. It’s a sixpence of Elizabeth I and it’s in well above average condition for a detecting find.

The coin is dated 1573 above the shield on the reverse and it has mint mark acorn on both sides.

Valuation

On the obverse there is a scratch on Elizabeth’s crown and a few more marks in the field but all the main detail is clear. The reverse has no defects and would grade VF. Had the obverse not had a few defects I’d have said more but as it stands I would price the coin no higher than £150.
