Sixpence of Charles I
This coin is the first from a small group that came in from Mark Drewitt, who asked for IDs and rough valuations.
The coin is a scarce type of sixpence of Charles I. It was struck at the mint in the Tower of London and is an example of group C, type 2a.
On the obverse is the third bust of King Charles and on the reverse it has C R (it looks more like I P) above the shield. On both sides the mint mark is a rose and in the Standard Catalogue it is listed as number 2809.
Valuation
This sixpence would grade about VF but is has a hole at the start of the obverse legend. Without the hole my valuation figure would have been much higher but with that significant defect my price range would be no higher than £30 to £40.
