Shilling of Charles I
This is the second coin that came in this week from Mr B. Kimber. It was unearthed on 17 October and Mr Kimber said it was the first of its type he had ever found.
The coin is a Tower mint shilling of Charles I with mint mark triangle in circle on both sides. It’s an example of group F, type 4.4 and is listed in the Standard Catalogue as number 2799.
Valuation
Over half of the obverse legend in unreadable and the edge is irregular but the bust of King Charles stands out well. The reverse is in better condition but parts of the legend are flat. The overall condition could be better but I’ve seem far worse Charles I shillings, so I’d price this one at £30 – £40.
