Penny of Offa
This Anglo-Saxon coin was unearthed very recently and has been recorded. The finder wished to remain anonymous but asked if I could provide him with a valuation.
The coin is what remains of a penny of King Offa of Mercia. It’s an example of number 333 in volume I of J. J. North’s English Hammered Coinage. It was struck in East Anglia during Offa’s light coinage and the moneyer is Botraed.
Valuation
Only an irregular fragment has survived of this penny. On the plus side, it has been possible to identify it fully. However, a huge minus point is its state of preservation. In its present condition my price range would be no higher than £120-150.
