Penny of King John
This is the second coin to come in this week from Steve Hurst. The first was milled silver but this one is a hammered coinage silver penny.
The coin is a voided short cross penny of King John, which is an example of class 5b. On the reverse the legend reads +RENAVD ON EV so the moneyer is Renaud and the mint York.   Â
Valuation
York is a scarce mint for John and this example is in better than Fine condition. However, it has a few minus points. It is weak in places, there are scratches on the reverse and the flan looks to be slightly buckled. In its present state of preservation my price range would be £40-50.
