Penny of Charles II

This coin measures only 13mm in diameter but is shown greatly enlarged. The finder, John Garner, asked for further details.

The coin is a hammered silver penny of Charles II. It has inner circles and mint mark crown on both sides, so it was struck during the third hammered coinage.

This isn’t a rarity but silver pennies of Charles II are far scarcer than those of Charles I. I’d say that the latter outnumber the former by about twenty to one.

Valuation

The reverse has been struck off centre but the coin would still grade about Fine so my valuation figure would be £15.
