Edward the Elder, Halfpenny

This is a detecting find from 15th April 2021 at Whitchurch, Hampshire. It has been recorded at the PAS as HAMP-940EE0, where it is designated a Find of Note: National Importance. Round halfpennies from the Anglo-Saxon period are very rare finds, this being the second example recorded by PAS, the other being IOW-43BDDE.

The moneyer is Wulfheard as shown by VVIII/+++/HARD on the reverse and the mint is probably Winchester.

The coin was unsold at the auction.
